I am a iMac user and am having problems finding a viewer for all forms of comics; PDF, CBR, CBZ. I

This is only to let you know that someone is reading your post.  Unfortunately, I can't help.  I know next to nothing about Mac systems and you're way ahead of me with all that re-building stuff.
As I use an android device for reading comics, much more comfortable than reading on a desktop or laptop, I have to leave it to others to add their tuppence worth.

To be a bit clearer, I download comic filesto my desktop, then transfer them to  micro sd cards, that way , I simply insert a card with piles of comics into my Samsung tablet and read away, replacing it with another when I fancy a change.  It's all very easy with android.

Hooe some of the others will be able to help.
