Marvel now sells around 45% of all comics.

This is far beyond the rule-of-thumb that a market becomes a monopoly when the lead supplier has more than a 30% market share.

Is it time for us to demand that the Federal Trade Commission investigate the comic book market? A simple solution would be to divide Marvel into two equal-sized companies, it's been done before in other markets.

This would at least provide three roughly equal competing companies. What do you think?

Marvel Comics are a drop in the ocean of the Walt Disney Company. Disney bought Marvel because their characters make a ton of money as movies and TV shows. The amount of "intellectual property" Disney owns is staggering. Rest assured any possible monopolies within the Disney empire will never be challenged. The Company is fabulously wealthy and has already paid for changes to copyright law to ensure their properties will remain under copyright forever. Just for fun, check out the "map" on this blog post:

Evem more interesting, the biggest market in the world now for Hollywood movies is China. The Chinese government vets all movies and demands censorship of certain issues and even script changes. Hollywood goes along with it. Money talks.
