A Request, High Rez Covers, Please?
« on: July 24, 2009, 05:11:52 PM »

Would it be possible to get some of these AWESOME SciFi Comic covers in Super High Resolution? I'd love to print some of these out and slap em around my room. Who can I ask? I love the cheesy Alien monster ones.
Thanks,

Only the original scanners who still own the books could provide that.
Also note scans are often uploaded by people other than the scanner himself.

With all that said, if you can list a few specific books there's a decent chance somebody could get you a scan of just that cover.  In general, we wouldn't want to have oversized scans as part of the comics; they're already pretty big.

Hi Distearth,
If someone can help you out I hope i can encourage you to contribute to the JVJ Postage Fund to help the site out.
A quick 'search' of the term JVJ will show you just how many books he's contributed to the site for scanning.
He ships them to scanners and only asks we cover his postage.  We are showing a surplus right now but it only takes a small number of boxes to wipe that out fast.  See here for his Postage thread - http://tinyurl.com/dfp2r6
Any small contribution would be Very Helpful.
:)

Sadly, I don't have any of those.  Hopefully somebody else can help.  They really are neat, aren't they?

I currently have some of JVJ's Planet Comics here.  The best covers I have appear to be 31 32 61.  What kind of size and resolution do you want?  I'm not sure my scanner is capable of producing something that would work as a poster.

Note that the covers I often supply with my scans are images of better covers from Heritage, but those are limited in size.

I just paypal-ed $10. Thanks for the link. I can send more later.
I really don't know about a good scan size. The scans I have seen so far of the covers look really good for the art but any of the text has the jagged edge that is seen when scanning. I don't know if it's from low dpi or pixels. If there is like a photo setting that might do it. I just have a low end canoscan "something", it has settings to scan at extremely high resolution but of coarse that makes extremely big files. I don't know if there is a happy medium.

I have been trying to do some restoration. Here is a sample. If I had higher rez images it would also be easier. Is this a worth while project? Would anyone else be interested in digital restorations? The image uploaded here is very low quality. I had to web optimize it for this post. It looks a lot better here. Again, just a sample.
