[The Australian Panther]

Just today picked up FREW's Giant-sized Phantom Annual #9.
This has part two of a serial starring 'The Phantom, The Australian Catman, The Australian Shadow and Sir Falcoln' . But (as it says in the ads) That's not all.
The Cover ( 2 pages back and front)  has a wonderful illustration featuring 'The Phantom, Catman, the Shadow, The Panther ( see my avatar) the Raven, and Jet Fury, the Grey Domino, The Mask and two I am personally unfamiliar with, The Green Skeleton ( who is exactly that) and the unlucky man. ( who is depicted dead on the cover - so he looks quite interesting)
The Stories include a reprint of 'Grey Domino #1' by Terry Trowel
Reprint of 'The Mask # 1' an early effort by Yaroslav Horak of later Jemes Bond fame.

And the Iceing on the cake, a story of the Australian Suicide Squad.
There is no text piece or credits for this, and I don't know anything about its origins. I think they just squeezed it in as it took the inside back page to fit it in. Explanation may be in the next Giant-sized phantom. As will the next episode of the serial ' SCORPIUS' -if your are a Phantom Fan that will giv away the villain.

You're doing this deliberately just to make me jealous, aren't you?  Well, it's working.
Suicide Squad.  Does this pre-date the Rick Flag version?  I see there are 7 members.  Are they all just regular people? The Mask intrigues me, mainly 'cos I've never read any stories.

Like I said, FREW provided no info on SUICIDE SQUAD. They are all ordinary people and a special squad of the FBI.The Art is good and not dated but it must be a period piece since the script has a couple of elements which by today's standards would be seen as Racist.

This one looks a treat, Panther! You mentioned the Suicide Squad were FBI agents- could they be inspired by the pulp series written by E.C.Tepperman of the same name? I found these on Roy Glashan's Library. Cheers, Bowers
