Unfortunately most of the Classics illustrated were published by GILBERT and are not PD. There are two Gilbert books on the site, curiously.

There are similar comics from other publishers however.
There is a series called Famous Authors Illustrated that is on this site.

Then there is the Dell Junior Treasury series

If you like classic movie adaptions, (as well as  from those in the Dell section)

I'd suggest you look through the 'Small Press' and 'Other Titles' sections. There are sure to be gems hidden in there.
