I was intrigued by the Sozodont ad on the inside front cover, announcing a sponsored attempt to set a record for crossing the Atlantic in an open boat. I tried to find out whether the project succeeded, but all I found were contemporary reports of the boat's sailing. Sozodont was very popular in the late 1800s but its popularity faded as it became clear the stuff damaged the teeth.

Hadn't heard that story. But this is a morning for my memory being triggered. Believe it or not, Ben Carlin and his wife Elinore crossed the Atlantic in an amphibious jeep. And then went on to circumnavigate the world! I read their book on the crossing years ago.
Here is a good site with the story and lot of pictures.

Hmm! That would make a good comic wouldn't it?

Cheers
