Thanks for highlighting this, Crash – I loved it. A very clever tale of gaslighting showing how easy it is to disorientate and undermine the confidence of another. If I say you are mad, how do you know that you are not?
Snettisham, by the way, is in Norfolk (not Berkshire as it says in the text). The village is five miles from the Queen’s country estate at Sandringham. The drawings of the Manor in the story with crenelated gables and turrets look identical to real-life Sandringham.
Like you say, either Leslie Turner was there – or he carefully researched the background
