Comic Character Postage Stamps

News that Switzerland has issued two new Globi stamps forces me to ask whether anyone out there collects comic book postage stamps.

Globi is one of those acquired tastes - bit like Hello Kitty in Hong Kong - that is phenomenally popular in a particular area but probably makes everyone else scratch their heads and wonder - but he (she? it?) certainly counts as one of the earliest golden age heroes:

There have been some very interesting interesting stamps produced over the years - including an excellent Canadian series that featured Nelvana of the Northern Lights and Captain Canuck:

There have been many Disney Comics postage stamps, mostly Carl Barks' Ducks and Gottfredson's Mickey Mouse, (especially in The Netherlands), also Thom Poes, Asterix, and US series and Canadian series with superheroes.  Also, there have been Warner Brothers and Walter Lantz cartoon character postage stamp series representing comic book characters, but the poses were generic marketing poses, rather than art taken directly from comic book panels or animation cells, unlike the Disney Barks poses that came directly from comic book panels.  I'm sure most of you have seen the US Superman and Batman series.

Globi is a "he".  My main work/business partner, Jan Gulbransson, drew a few Globi comic books for a Swiss publisher.  I have friends working on Thom Poes comics.  The Canadian early 1940s superhero comics are very nostalgic for me, as my cousins, who grew up in the same house as I did, had most of those that were issued.
