What's the greatest story ever told? I reckon Prince Valiant must come pretty close - one continuous storyline now stretching over 4000 strips.

Today, we celebrate the 68th birthday of Cullen Murphy who wrote a good chunk of that script from the 1970s into the new Millennium. Having a degree in medieval history must have helped.

And that reminds me that 'Big Ben Bolt' is another that is not PD. Also, 'The Heart of Juliet Jones' both of which were very popular in their day.
Actually, I think the strip story that went on for longest used to be 'Dick Tracy vs Flattop'
Gould had Flattop escape from custody and did it all over again.
Newspaper circulation figures must have indicated that the story and the character were drawing an audience.
Details here.

I don't vouch for the accuracy of all the details in that Wikipedia post.

I read all of Hal Foster's stories, but unfortunately, I haven't gotten to the more recent ones.

Panther:  'The Heart of Juliet Jones'

The series was published in German by Walter Lehning Verlag, from 1953 to 1955 in five issues and is extremely rare here. Up to
