Today marks the 101st anniversary of the launch of Film Fun - in many ways the touchstone of British comics history.

Film Fun introduced many of the tropes of later comics such as mountainous plates of bangers'n'mash as a reward for heroes and people being upended by banana skins as they walked along the pavement. Whilst it's true that the heroes of the stars were interchangeable, it never distracted from the gag - the purpose of each strip.
