Interesting first that the term AR-15 was obviously commonly known to the general public back in 1966, and secondly that this predates the current anti-gun hysteria that predominates today.

Odd that the toy rifle only vaguely resembles a real AR-15 of the era but does more closely resemble some of the highly modified custom built AR-15 based rifles.
In the 60's all AR rifles had a carrying handle molded integral to the upper receiver.
In more recent years the carry handle is detachable allowing a more sophisticated folding rear sight to be mounted.
