This looks like a terrific Dell one shot. A real shame this didn’t catch on. The main character bares a remarkable resemblance to General Grant!

This book was written and drawn by Fred Fredericks. He was a history buff and had worked on several historical features before getting into comic books. Four years after The Blue Phantom he took over art chores (and eventually scripting) on the Mandrake the Magician newspaper strip. He worked on Mandrake for over 40 years. In reading Lambiek's bio, I learned that Fredericks inked books for Marvel in the 80s and 90s.
