'The Savage In Me!' was Joe Simon's choice of romance story for inclusion in 'The Best of Simon and Kirby', and although I did not like the quality of the reprint in that book, I was very impressed by the story itself. So it was a real treat for me to see it and read it in its original state, here on 'Comic Book Plus'. It's actually a war/romance crossover set in China, and it features some beautifully intense artwork by Jack Kirby, with lovely background detailing. You have to see it and read it for yourselves. The character of Gary Donovan reminds me a little bit of Humphrey Bogart in 'The African Queen'. The best of Simon & Kirby? I don't know. But I find it hard to believe that it can get much better than this...^^
