There are at least three Sherlock Holmes collections in the Super Detective Library, all apparently reprints from a newspaper strip by Giacoia. Sekowsky was known to be generous and always prepared to help out a friend and he was also known to be very fast. Clearly he worked with Giacoia on the strip.
I hope someone [In the US?] has collected the whole strip.
Eternity Comics published a
Sherlock Holmes comic circa 1988-89 which apparently reprinted the Giacoia strip. I've never seen an issue. A blog post I found said there were 23 issues, reprinting the strip's entire run. I found a few copies on eBay. For some reason the GCDB doesn't list this comic amongst its Eternity listings. My complaint with the
Super Detective reprints is that they hacked up and cropped many panels in order to fit the format.
Giacoia was a talented artist on his own but frequently used ghost pencillers. Somewhere I read an interview with someone who knew him who said that Giacoia was insecure about his drawings and had a hard time getting started on a page. This led him to procrastinate on starting complete-art jobs. On the other hand he was confident inking and seemed to work at a reasonable speed. However I have heard that Mike Esposito occasionally pitched in to help him meet deadlines. It's too bad, really. Giacoia did nice solo work.
