Okay, this is not particularly Golden Age related (although tangentially), but very much tail end Silver Age!  ;D

Contrary to what the article mentioned if th books carried a proper copyright then they remain copyright. However, the trademark may not have been defended. The window will now be closing on anyone who wanted to test those waters. I hope they do a decent job and not totally ruin them.
