"The Judgement of the Joker" is the Saint story that was later adapted into "The Wonderful War" in the collection 'Featuring the Saint'.

"The Wonderful War" clearly takes place in the Saint's early days before "The Saint Closes the Case/The Last Hero", when the Saint worked with a gang and was still an unknown outlaw. Unfortunately, when updating the story for 'Featuring the Saint', Charteris inserted a reference to the preceding story in the collection: "The Logical Adventure", which quite obviously takes place after the Saint's identity is well-known and he has been pardoned due to his actions in "The Avenging Saint/Knight Templar".

The offending line is: "He had already had police protection — after the Lemuel incident there had been no difficulty in obtaining that, as soon as he showed the police the first cards."
