I have released my sci-fi novella Non-Retrieval under two Creative Commons licenses. The rules are pretty simple.

1. You cannot sell the original fiction, but you can share it with individuals.
2. You cannot post the original fiction on e-book retail sites or free book sites.
3. You must give credit to myself, Raymond Towers, as the original author of the fiction.

Past that, you are allowed to adapt my written story any way you see fit, including in a comic book version, and you can give it away or sell it commercially. This will promote my writing and your creative efforts, and if you can make money from it, why not? The novella is listed as Reader Sets Price.
