Need help IDing a series
« on: March 07, 2026, 08:50:06 PM »

There was a series that ran in a British girls' comic in the 1960's and possibly early 70s about a teacher who moonlighted as a wrestler. I think the wrestler may have been tiger-themed but I'm not sure on that. The story revolved around a schoolgirl who discovers the teacher's secret and thereafter helps protect it.

I can't remember the series title or the comic it was in, but I do recall that at least one story also appeared in a picture library edition.

Well, that's a stumper.  If we knew which title it was in, that would narrow it down to a publisher - fewer pocket libraries to check. CB+ doesn't hold material from those dates. But there are so many issues of a lot of the pocket libraries that even if we had them, it'd take ages to check. With luck, someone will have a clue about it.

The series in question is Grappling Gertie. She seems to have appeared in both Bunty and Mandy picture libraries, but I've yet to track down the main series. I have a notion it was in Mandy but I have yet to be able to verify that.
