Romance comics and papers.
« on: May 21, 2012, 02:05:26 PM »

The British romance weekly, Romeo was published by D.C.Thomson and here are some covers:-
http://www.kellyscomics.com/romeo-comics.php
Needless to say, with them being by D.C. Thomson, we can't host them on CB+

On my last visit to The Children's Bookshelf?, in Edinburgh, I noticed some examples of pocket size romance stories (prose)with some very good cover art.

Red Letter was a weekly romance storypaper.  cover samples here:-

Too bad we can't have them on CB+ .
But there are plenty romance comics here I haven't read yet.
Even I like to re-read it.
I'm re-reading "Brides In Love". :)

I was just a bit wary of using D.C. Thomson stuff, apart, that is, from the more basic problem of finding scans of complete issues.  Hens teeth spring to mind.  I'll keep looking.

I can't read Spanish...  :'(
But thank you for the link.

I was tempted to click the download link (at least to enjoy the art) but decide it's better to read the legal one, like narfstar said. :)

peedanee, you'll find 5 pocket romances in UK and Australian section.  These are British prose issues from the series, "Romance Series" from the 1940's. Reproduction isn't very good but it seems to be typical romantic fiction from the period.
Other British titles, e.g. Red Letter and Romeo are very elusive and they're driving me daft trying to find them.

Thank you paw broon. I read Romance Series 001 and I like it. Rather than romance between Peg and Derek, I was moved by noble sacrifice which Grace took for their happiness. But of course I was happy for Peg and her man on the cliff. Ooops I was to excited.  :)

... they're driving me daft trying to find them.

Don't push yourself too hard to collect, spend some time to enjoy your current collection too. ;)

Hi paw broon. :)

Yes I always check on this site for latest romance comics.
Then I shared it in my Google+ . :)

A glimpse from the cover, seems like The Schoolgirl is about mystery, isn't it?
Oh, I want to ask you about Schoolgirls' Own Annual mentioned in this link as the first girls' comics.

Always a subject which intrigues me.  However, there were earlier examples of girls' papers and you will find this site interesting:- http://www.friardale.co.uk/Story%20Papers.htm
Scroll down for sections on early girls' papers. But there were story papers for girls before Schoolgirls' Own. Lots to learn and some to download.
I'd previously read the article on your link and I should say that, with ref. to the Schoolgirls Picture Library, these were known as comics and not picture papers. I have that issue with The Secret Avengers. There have been lots of this type of pocket comic, for both sexes.  But story papers, in some cases - if they didn't go out of business first, changed into comics.  Girls Crystal is a good example.

I read the article and what a rich resources it has. But I wonder which one is romance paper.
There I discover that "Schoolgirls' Own Annual" has adventure theme.
Is Schoolgirls Picture Library romance?

Uhm, guys, I hope this is not off topic.
I has found better media than Google+ for me to share romance comics which I read here and that was Wordpress.
Well I set up a weblog at romansaharian.wordpress.com and blogromansaharian.wordpress.com
still preparing but I put enough content to get started.

It's kind of microblogging. So not to much content there other than pictures and few words.
Care to take a look and I want to know what do you guys think.
And, if it's okay, uhm, I want to make it like CBP's sister. So there will be contents which refer to CBP.
Because all the pictures I got from here and I want to promote CBP too.
