Romance Comics
« on: May 29, 2008, 04:55:28 PM »

Catching Narf and Darwin's comments on Romance Comics last night it made me go drag out the box which hadn't been opened in a long time. The one on the bottom of the pile that says Romance printed in pencil on one end.  heh heh

Hadn't opened that box in years. Some of those 1940s titles seemed pretty hilarious with the photo covers.

So just thought to start a thread dedicated to Romance Comics.

Once I learn how to embed a pic in a post I'll show some of the covers.

I'm always looking for St.John books with Matt Baker art and Jack Kamen.
There was a collection called 'Romance Without Tears' a couple years ago that looked great!

Good links on the subject:

Here's another publisher I'd never heard of: Comic Media/Harwell Publications.
dang, must be I never got out much.

Fancy not knowing the publisher Comic Media when we actually have a publisher section for them on the download site, which by the way needs a Honeymoon Romance and All True Romance scan if you happen to have any in that romance comics box. :)

It would be preferable to post all the covers in the one post rather than 1 post per cover.

Req when I comes to GA companies think about reading a Marvel indicia in the SA.  Unless you knew better you could not tell from all the different names that they were all Marvel.  Crestwood is Prize,  Home is Harvey and any other number of cases.  I think Johnny Dynamite is Comic Media's most memorable feature by Pete Morisi.  Like Kirby struck out on his own with Mainline so Andru and Esposito thought that they could produce better comics so they combined their first names to get Mikeross.  Their mad imitation Get Lost is probably the most know.  I have an issue if I can did it up I will scan it.  JIM

These look great rez, can't wait to see them. There are a lot of romance comics to scan and tons of titles we dont even have scanned examples of yet.  I'm very curious about some of the Fox romance titles I've seen.  The two areas I'm picking up comics for scanning in right now are crime and romance, so I have a bunch of goodies on my pile as well...  :)

Oh. Does the placing of the extra separate messages effect a total something on the site? Didn't mean to rock the boat somehow.
That answers the next book to scan question then. Honeymoon Romance it is. :-*

Yes we might think you are trying to increase your post count for some strange reason.  ;)
If you rethink and want to add another picture you can edit your previous post and add it in, rather than have 7 posts in a row. Since it is a forum/message board it is to do with waiting for a reply before posting, we are not that fussed here since we are not that busy, but l did think l should point it out. And to quote a previous post you would use the quote button, on the desired post you wanted to use, we do not have a multi quote button so if you wanted to quote more than one post you would have to copy and past the quotes into your first post, just putting the quote marks in makes it a bit hard to understand.

Nice to hear you have a Honeymoon Romance in that pile, l looked every where for a scan and could not find one. Thanks for offering to scan it for us :)

Well I ...er... guess I have to back up a bit here on the Honeymoon Romance being I don't have one. When you mentioned that particular title I thought you were referencing a book from the salvo shot somewhere in those earlier posts of this thread.
So I guess the next scan is still a question. Sorry.

But I will look thru the box and see if I have that title in there.
And I will refrain from making multiple posts one following the other as I wouldn't want the most posts prize to go to someone who cheated. :'(

Let me point out that the Romance Comics are quite capable of being excellent.  Check out Search for Love #2 in the American Comics Group downloads for an example of a terrific comic book around the romance theme.  One of the things that you'll notice in reading Golden Age Romance Comics is that they are plainly aimed at an older audience than (say) the superhero books of the same era.

I do love that cover of My Own Romance #10.

Have to admit some of those covers were really something else.
What they made the models go thru.

"Hey, come're let me sniff yer hair"

or "Starry, Starry Eyes..."

Maybe I should get a ukulele...

or one of my favs with no need for a lead in...

I do love that cover of My Own Romance #10.
