Red Circle Comics #4 - Sabu Edition is going up right now.

This is a bit of an odd duck. The first page (story pages 2-3) is damaged, the only thing keeping this from being a "complete" book. Contents appear to be an unpublished issue of Fox's Sabu "Elephant Boy," wrapped in unused cover from Rural Home's Red Circle Comics #4.The book is complete other than the damaged page, even though page 1 of the first story is missing. Fox would have printed that on the inside front cover. Also, the last two pages of the book, which would have been advertisements, are blank newsprint, and thus have been left out of this scan. Variations of Red Circle Comics #4 exist with other Fox leftovers. One known variation features an issue of Dorothy Lamour Comics. The others are unknown.

Because it's a Fox remainder, it might be good to post in in both publishers.

-Eric

??? ??? ??? OY! I stuck it in Rural Home for now, but will leave it to Jon or Narf to decide where else it should go...but -- thank you very much for this rare item!!!  ;D ;D ;D

It looks like the link from Fox isn't working. Geo mentioned on DCM that he was having problems with it, and when I tried it just now, I got an error message.

Very weird...I tried it last evening and it was fine. I'll incorporate your note about the Croydon link.

Holyoke's Veri Best Sure Fire Comics #1 is going up now. This reprints various stories from various issues of Captain Aero Comics, none of which have been posted. Also, I believe the contents are the same as Veri Best Sure Shot Comics. Both covers (from Heritage) are included in the upload and are identical except for the title.

After a little time trying to get the FTP working for me, several books are going up right now!

1) Dick Cole #9 - Now, this is sort of an oddball book. It's a reprint of a reprint. This copy is the Accepted Publications 1958 reprint of Star Publications' Dick Cole #9 from 1950. Star's book was, in turn, a reprint of two Dick Cole stories from Blue Bolt and "Rip" Rory from Target Comics vol.1 no.2. Other than probably some different ads, Accepted's book has the same contents as Star's, so I've also included the Star covers from Heritage. And, as if the whole matter wasn't confusing enough, Accepted's cover for Dick Cole #9 was Star's cover for Dick Cole #8.

2) Heroic Comics #85 - This issue features a cornucopia of artists from Sam Glanzman and H.G. Peter, to Ed Moore and Bill Walton. Among the typical war stories is the sad little tale of 13-year old Richard Tweddell, illustrated by Glanzman. This story has always stuck out to me, and is certainly the most memorable tale in the book.

3) Hopalong Cassidy #66 - This copy is missing one centerfold, pages 15-18. If Anyone can replace those, it would be much appreciated!

4) Super Duck Comics #42 - Plenty of Al Fagaly goodness and some nice Archie house ads. The cover (and price) attracted me to this book, having never read Super Duck before. I was a little disappointed by the first story, but the rest of the book, I thought, was fantastic! I hope everyone else enjoys it as much as I did!

5) Whiz Comics #7 - I've been meaning to scan this one for a LONG time because it is so brittle. (Little more than a stack of paper really.) However, because of it being brittle, I've put it off, knowing that it would take longer than usual. All pages are readable, but there is damage to the artwork in the last two stories (Dr. Voodoo and Ibis). I've included the fiche copies of those stories, as well as the IFC and IBC. Front and back covers are from Heritage.

One of my personal favorites, Airboy Comics vol.5 no.7 is going up right now! This issue was one of my earliest GA comic purchases from Comic Carnival West (RIP) in Indianapolis. It features a great Airboy drug story by Dick Wood and Dan Zolnerowich, and The Heap by Carmine Infantino and Leonard Starr. Enjoy!!!

Fawcett's George Pal's Puppetoons #17 is going up now! This is one instance where I think the comic adaptation was FAR better than the original film version. Some of the claymation Puppetoon shorts were just plain creepy. The comic on the other hand is fun and kinda cute.

This book is incomplete, missing pages 3, 4, 29, and 30. Pages 1-2 are also damaged.

Thanks Eric.

Can't say I'[ve ever seen a Puppetoon comic (although I've seen a few of the animated shorts) but I certainly know Jack Cole's Plastic Man is always top notch stuff!

Thanks

I LOVE Puppetoons, Joe.
The early issues had great gray-tone covers, many done by Joe Oriolo, who also signed some of the interiors. Very underrated title. I only have 4,5,8,13,17. Hard to find, too.

Peace, Jim (|:{>

Thanks for the good word on the title Jim.  I hope to see more scans of Puppetoons pop up so I can out the issues myself.

I doubt anyone has grabbed it yet, but just in case, there was a problem with two of the pages in Big Shot #32. (I scanned page 3 twice and skipped page 5.) I've deleted the old file, and the fixed version is going up right now.

My first upload of 2012! Charlton's Atomic Rabbit #4 is going up right now. From July 1956, this issue features Atomic Rabbit by Al Fago (of course), Bercy Penguin, Orsen Buggy, Fuzzy the Bear, Li'l Foxes, and Li'l Rabbit. This was one of my Christmas presents this year, and I haven't even had time to read it. You'll have to let me know if it's any good.
