Can anyone supply publication info for the Spanish Captain Marvel series?  Who was the publisher?  Dates?  number of issues, etc?

Just a bit, I'm afraid.  The landscape series you are asking about was published by Hispano Americana de Ediciones, S. A., Barcelona.  There were 88 issues and 1 Almanaque (?)  You'll notice that the Almanaque is an upright comic.  The run started in 1947 and the Almanaque is dated 1949.  The comics seem to have been published weekly.

is an Argentinian reprint and there were many S. American Cap. Marvel comics.  You'll see again that this is an upright as opposed to landscape or format italien. It appeared in 1953. Apart from the format, another departure from the Spanish editions is the cover, this one having a new illo. by Carl(os)? Freixas. 
I'm having real difficulty finding more of the S. American Marvel titles and the ones I do find from Brazil would have to be very heavily edited because of the non p. d. strips they contain.

Thanks for the pub info. It's interesting to me that the publisher's approach to promotion is so different than the American or British approaches. The back pages mentions other titles, but doesn't promote them as a company group identity. No cross pollination at all.

I've been really entertained by a lot of the little landscape titles from Spain.  There doesn't appear to be a lot of history of the Spanish comics industry per se on my interwebs, however. I just wish I could get there and nose around some places....

There are a number of books on history of Spanish comics.  The only one I can find on ebay is this:-

They are all in Spanish, though.  I have all the above and it takes time wading through them.
There is an interesting vol. available in Mallorquin - Guerrers, Corsaris, Soldats i Detectius - which is a history of comics published under the Franco fascist regime.  Sorry, can't find a link to it.

In the bigger Spanish cities there are comic shops, many of which deal in, among other stuff, original tebeos.  Barcelona has many and an acquaintance told me that Madrid is hoaching with them.  Palma de Mallorca has a couple, one of which is amazing - like an Aladdin's Cave but you have to make an appointment. Joan at Norma Comics can help with info. Well, he did for me. Another place to find old comics are the flea markets, and there are many.  Great walking round them.
