Irfanview Question
« on: November 29, 2008, 05:55:02 PM »

In the FTP is the splash page of HappyComics33  01hc33 cropped and sized.
Seeing the paper browning what I request is the steps to better this scan.

Thank You.

Hi Rez,
You did a fine job of cropping, etc.
Irfanview doesn't help much with yellowing.  It's not nearly as powerful an application for fine tuning the colours as PhotoShop or some other apps like I understand GIMP is.
If you open your page in Irfan and hit 'shift-g' you can see there is some basic tools there for adjusting 'gamma','contrast' and 'saturation'  You can play with the setting to see how they work.  There is also 'color balance' but it's far from easy to use that to remove yellowing.
So I use Irfan just for basic things like rotation and cropping and perhaps sharpening.  But that's it.

Good luck,
-Yoc

My offer still stands, rez,
if you want a free copy of Photoshop Elements 3.0, it's yours.

It would probably help towards better scans and as long as we are spending the time doing this we should produce the best we can with what we have available.

I have a longer learning curve than some of the more experienced cyber folk on here but I'll give it a shot. Thanks.

Is this a disk I'll receive in the mail, copy and then return or is it a downloadable over the net?

It's a disc I would send you, rez, but I don't need it back. You're welcome to keep it. I'm allowed to install it on two computers, so I'll keep my version installed so that I can answer your questions. We were ALL inexperienced once upon a time and I'm sure once you get your feet wet with PS Elements you'll manage just fine.

Peace, Jim (|:{>

ps. send me your address via PM and I'll put it into the mail on Monday.
