Hello
« on: December 23, 2015, 04:29:23 PM »

Hello everyone,

First time writer, long time visitor.

I have a bit of strange question, I'll hope you'll forgive me for asking it - are Magazine Enterprise and Fiction House comics are in the Public Domain because their copyright ended? or because they are orphan works?

I ask because I read that AC comics licencesed and/or bought the rights to reprint those comics or at least the permission of the owners of the right of the comics

I can't find a reliable source to conform or deny this.

Hi,

We have had very recent advice that commenting on copyright issues as non-lawyers, could potentially lead us into rather choppy & troubled waters (without a bridge:)).

After sleeping on it, I think this is actually very good advice. Although not in our usual helpful spirit it is a LOT safer as a site for us not to allow copyright discussions.

However, I think I am fine in saying that the phrase "orphaned works" just means that no one appears to be interested in the rights.

Best regards,

Mark

Bill only owns his own creations. Unless you count properties like Dragonfly and such (Colt), but all the "original" GA characters he uses are PD. Like the Avenger. Anyone can use their "own" version just like Dynamite or Blue Moon does. He is only reprinting (at an expensive price I might add) PD material just like others do on Ebay for example.

Again the difference between copyright and trademark. Bill got the trademark from Vincent Sullivan. Not sure if it holds up though.
