A bit of digging turns up some interesting info. There were 2 titles;
The Invisible Avenger, #1 - 11, 1950 - 1951
and Invisible Avenger Comics, #11 - 28, 1951 - 1952
This one mainly featured The Blue Ghost.
The overwriting may have something to do with a further complication. These titles, or some of them, had New Zealand editions. Changes might have been made for the NZ issues as can be seen on the back page of #17.
Illustrated Publications published the Aus. comics.
By the end of the run the contents were mainly American reprints; Atlas, St. John etc.

So I guess the question would be: Did Illustrated Publications actually have a character called The Invisible Avenger, and if not, then which of Illustrated Publications' characters was re-named "The Invisible" (in the stories) and THE INVISIBLE AVENGER (on the covers)? Did the New Zealand publisher even start the series with a genuine character named The Invisible Avenger?

I'll let it go for now on the mystery of why a New Zealand publisher of reprints would keep the title INVISIBLE AVENGER going (apparently) long after the reprints of that character (or whatever character they were calling "The Invisible Avenger") ran out.

Wow, that really WAS different! Invisible superheroes have been done. So have GIANT superheroes. But an invisible GIANT superhero who smashes airplanes right out of the sky? Not so much!

Oh look, there's a whole slew of those covers HERE:
