Over in the reading group someone mentioned Mr Frazetta's Famous 'Famous Funnies' covers.
Found this link to a design blog where you can find them all.

They're here as well (unfortunately, *only* the covers and not the interior Buck Rogers strips those issues originally contained), in some examples better, and some worse (and a couple, much worse), than what you see on that page. IIRC, there was a portfolio of the Frazetta BR covers issued by Russ Cochran back in the 1980s or early 90s that had the pristine cover artwork, issues sans logos and typography. I was not aware that these covers may have been responsible for Frazetta being hired to assist Al Capp on Li'l Abner, though!
One interesting observation I made that I'd never noticed before is that there seems to be a story connection between the covers of FF 213 and FF 214 (i.e., the silhouetted figure in the airlock of #213 would appear to be the same Old Spaceman that threatens Buck and Wilma with a blaster on #214). That makes me more curious than ever to actually
read the BR stories reprinted in those issues, to discover whether Frazetta was basing his covers directly on the strip's storyline continuity reprinted in those very issues.
