Banned in Indianapolis?
« on: October 29, 2009, 09:50:07 PM »

Does anyone know specifically which 35 comic books were banned in the city of Indianapolis in the late 1940s? I read about this in "Men of Tomorrow: Geeks, Gangsters and the Birth of the Comic Book", which is a book you may enjoy.

Good question tielk I wish I could help.
But in a related site you can read all about the hysteria in Connecticut at the following link:

Very interesting reading that time line.  Especially the fact that there were still problems in the mid 1980's and the conviction in 1991.

True.
It sure seems as long as comics will forever be linked with 'kiddie books' there will always be someone getting in trouble for making or selling anything that goes beyond that target audience.  As Gaines proved, just changing the format to magazines or like today into 'Graphic Novels' seems to be the easiest way to sidestep the entire issue.

Great link Yoc, and I see what you mean about the format change...but... I LOVE the "comic book" format.
