Although Wilbur Wilkins actually appeared before Archie Andrews, it's pretty clear that once the Archie formula was set, Wilbur imitated it slavishly. Still, this comic is not without its virtues. However, the Bill Vigoda (brother of Abe)/Terry Woik artwork is a bit off-putting with its semi-realistic style (early Archies feel similarly odd to us today after years of the Dan DeCarlo "look"). Check out the cover: 3 fairly realistic young women, Wilbur is less so, and the Miss Grundy clone is cartoony. The splash panel for "The Weaker Sex" is also a good example of the clash of styles.

Yet another Frank Sinatra spoof, this time "jug blower supreme" Hank Swoonatra in the Li'l Abner pastiche "Catfish Joe."
