Archie & Friends
« on: December 20, 2009, 07:56:23 AM »

Hey gang!

Archie & Friends issues 137 and 138 feature a number of lesser known characters from the Archie catalog.

Of special interest, Sargent Boyle and Rang-A-Tang the Wonder Dog both make appearances.

These issues are new on the shelf and ... well ... I like to support this type of effort.

I've got a feeling they did this to secure fresh trademarks on these characters. :)

Same reason the Hasbro re-uses names for new Transformers even if the new character is completely different from the old, just to maintain that trademark..

Don't get me started on messing up a character. Anyone remember the REAL G.I. Joe action figures? The big 12" ones, not the little wimpy plastic things.

Yes! The original G.I. Joe dolls were programmed to explode if you called them dolls. Kens dolls went *pif* and wet themselves if you called them action figures  - which is why Barbie left him for a real action figure - Joe.
The new G.I. Joe toys are 'figurines' at best.
That's why I was happy to read the old comics with Joe as a REAL American hero!

The days of good TV. I liked the others but Rat Patrol seemed most exciting to me at the time even though we sure did not a color tv back then

Ever notice there wasn't a single 1960's WWII Drama series set in the pacific theater?

McHale's Navy was a comedy, and did set 3 of it's 4 years there. Ironicly, it started as a drama pilot on Alcoa Presents Fred Astair Theater, "7 Against The Sea"!

I was refering to the 1960's,actually. :)

Loved the series, hard to beleive NBC dropped the show not once, but twice. Perhaps that's why i'm also a BLACKHAWKS fan :)

He's a mediocre artist in my opinion. Don't hate it but it's nothing spectacular to me. I never got into American Flagg.

Chaykin's work does not appeal to me looks like a very poor man's Toth. Also do not like Frank Miller's stuff
