As a big lover of peplum movies, I had to take a look at this, one of my favourites – thanks to Mortimer for bringing it to my attention. (Anything with Sylva Koscina in must be worth watching – Deadlier than the Male is another favourite, also X-77, another Bond simulacrum – and then there’s the bizarre Uncle was a Vampire with Christopher Lee)
The art here is very good indeed – the faces have emotion and movement – the groups are balanced and the plot flows easily through text and imagery – an extremely good effort.
The story is a loose interpretation of Aeschylus’ Seven against Thebes, written 2500 years ago. A timeless tragedy, the Aeschylus plot involves seven heroes of Thebes pitted against seven heroes of Argos in personal combat – one battle follows another with increasing intensity – what a classic movie that would make.
