Honestly, will those poor bastards at EC ever rest in peace? 

I'll admit that a few of the stories were over the top... but the vast majority of them weren't that bad really, at least not bad enough to justify labeling them "extremely gory."  Sometimes I wonder if I've read the same stories, but then perhaps it's because my copies are b&w reprints.

I checked this out, thinking I'ld get to read a good interview with Theakston.  The article is a nice glossed-over tale of comics' history, but not really much of an "interview".  It felt like a simple Q&A from someone who wanted to do an article on Golden Age comics, which really didn't need Theakston's involvement at all to get the same information across.  The only thing I learned about Theakston was that he doesn't like graded comics, and he has no problem destroying a GA comic with his "Theakstonization Process".

For their time, the EC books were probably shocking. This was the fifties after all.

I viewed the interview quickly as I'm at work and getting ready to leave. I agree with him about slabbing a comic. I understand why people do it, but it seems ridiculous to me. It's like buying a beautiful painting and covering it in a shroud to protect it. I've never been to uptight about the overall quality of a book. As long as it's able to be read without crumbling, it's okay for me. I had a friend that would buy a comic and never even read it. He'd seal it in Mylar and never look at it unless he wanted to sell it. these thing were meant to be read an appreciated.
