The new Asterix volume is scheduled for October 21st, 2021.

The 39th in the series, the last signed off by Uderzo, but written and drawn by Jean-Yves Ferri and Didier Conrad, has an initial print run of five million (yes, you read that correctly). The previous volume, La Fille de Vercingetorix was the biggest selling book of any kind in France in 2019.

In the new volume, we are promised our intrepid heroes leave the village to embark on an adventure....

Hot on the heels of the news that Asterix books sold a record 5.8m copies last year, more details of the next live-action adventure movie: Asterix and Obelix in China - scheduled for release in 2022.

That, to me, is very sad news. China is the biggest market for movies in the world right now and they take full advantage of it. If you want to make mega money you set a movie in China. The movie will be gone over with a find tooth-comb for anything that might offend the regime.
Was there ever an Asterix comic set in China?

The correct title of the movie is ?Asterix & Obelix, The Silk Road? so I guess it will involve our heroes trekking from Rome through the near East, Kazakhstan etc until they arrive at the Forbidden Kingdom - should make a good story and no doubt it will later be recreated in an album.

I've given up all hope since God Save Brittania. Entertaining a little bit but not unforgettable. A long way from the Ast?rix in Britain animated movie.

In French, the new Ast?rix movie is titled "L'empire du milieu", not "La route de la soie", so my guess is it will focus on China, not the Silk Road.
