I wasn’t expecting much from this – but it turned out to be pretty good.
Golden Girl’s cynical girlfriends were fun and I enjoyed Louis Ravielli’s art on Shaman & Flame (or even Flame & Shaman) – I wonder if School for Skulduggery was an influence on the movie, School for Scoundrels, probably not, I guess?
Enoch Sly was a great idea – if a little creepy – there’s something about ventriloquists that’s not quite right, something hidden beneath the surface – gnomic you might say.
I speak with some experience (now here’s a secret) - as a teen I once dated a pretty redhead who was an amateur ventriloquist – she used to do free shows in nursing homes, things like that. Whenever I zeroed in for a kiss, she would start talking in a different voice even though her mouth was, umm, otherwise engaged – and the voice varied, from squeaky girlie to basso profundo. She clearly thought it was funny, but quite frankly, it freaked me out! We didn’t last long.
