Big find for me in this was The Martian - an actual retelling of John Carter, Warlord of Mars, that I never knew existed - and very decent art too.

Written by DR Morton and Robert Forest, it seems. I don't know anything about either of them - does anyone?

Robert Forrest (is that the one you're talking about, Andrew - 2"r"'s)?  If so, he was a seriously good comics artist and did work for Thriller Picture Library and other AP papers, particularly excellent work on The Picture of Dorian Gray in TPL.
