With Tom Scioli's graphic biography (biograph?) of Jack about to hit the stands, I wondered what you guys think of him - and what you might consider his best work?

I'm particularly looking forward to Tom's recreation of the scenes where Jack tells Stan Lee he's not being paid enough. That should rip!

For me, growing up in the sixties, it was the Avengers with Iron Man in his original dustbin costume that made Jack a bit of a hero - but later I developed a soft spot for Young Romance - not the stories which were yeuk - but the art.

Please don't get me started. Huge Kirby Fan. The relationship between Kirby and Lee was complex and complicated. I have changed my mind about it many times.
As some of the backdrop of what went on behind the scenes in comics relating to Marvel and Stan Lee in particular, this little video is fascinating.
What he doesn't make clear is that Stan [Stanley Leiber] was also related to the Goodman family and that Larry Leiber was his brother. So there must be more to the story than told here.

Re Jack Kirby, Mark Evanier, Mark (2008). Kirby: King of Comics.is as good a biography as you will get.
Last but not least, if you are familiar with Kirby's work, and haven't already, have a look on this site at the work he did for Harvey's Alarming Tales and you will see a lot of ideas he had then but never used again till many years later.

On thing I enjoy on CB+ is finding more of Kirby's work that I hadn't already found and realizing he kept recycling his ideas, right to the end of his Career.   
Also, the Kirby Museum is a great resource, not just for Jack's work but there are extensive biographies of all of his inkers and people he worked with and was in business with. And much more besides. Be warned, if you have never visited this site, be prepared to be there for some time.

I did a bathroom mural of the FF at a coffee house here in Richmond last year. I used an overhead projector and did 4 foot tall tracings from FF 48 for  figures of GALACTUS  and the invisible girl and used neon colors... composed a scene using Kirby's and Sinnot's inking styles...I particularily like Kirby's flame trails whose points lean in opposite directions over the length of the trail. And Sinnot's thick, rounded zig zag to replace cross hatching on shading near edges. It was for a brain surgery's victim fund raiser block party. He happened to be a comic art instructor. It was dubbed the JACK KIRBY TRIBUTE MURAL. I could upload but don't know if it's legal. PM me and I'll send privately.
