John Byrne

Today, we celebrate West Bromwich born John Byrne's 70th birthday (a new member of Team Force 7)

John is credited with bringing Superman back to manageable size in the 1980s after the 1970s saw the hero achieve almost godlike powers - the Man of Steel was reborn in pretty much his Golden Age style.

John was also a big influence on the Lois & Clarke TV series - still the best so far in my opinion - where Luthor is turned into more of an Elon Musk type character with a rationale behind his schemes rather than just a psycho and easily defeatable evil genius.

There's much more to John than that of course - what's your favourite Byrne moment?

When I first saw Byrne's work, way back in X-Men, 108? I loved it.
As for down-powering Superman, that's not the first time as Denny O'Neil did it back in 1970 with the sand creature.  Beautiful comic art from Swan and Anderson.
