A happy 116th birthday to Reg Partlett today - though sadly he left us in 1991.

One of those lesser sung heroes of the comic page, Reg was sixty-six years in the business - beat that if you can.

Most famous to me for his work on Billy Bunter and Buster's Diary - the eponymous hero of Buster comic:

Buster was scripted as the son of Andy Capp and his redoubtable wife, Flo. What endeared me most to Buster was that he had a pet worm who shared his adventures. Other more 'grown-up' strips in the comic included The Leopard of Lime Street (a British superhero) and Charles Peace, a villainous rogue based on a real-life Victorian nasty piece of work of the same name (but who could nevertheless play the violin like an angel apparently)
