Happy 60th birthday to Kurt Busiek today.

Big fan of Kurt because of Astro City with its Golden Age vibes. In some ways, when Kurt was sucked more into the DC/Marvel universes at the turn of the century, I felt a little disappointed - I really wanted to explore the Astro City more - but one man can only do so much and at the end of the day you have to put bread on the table.

Even so, there are about 100 issues worth of Astro City to play with - and the prospect of a future TV series.

I agree completely with your thoughts on Astro City.  I loved the series!
His health wasn't good when he ceased the individual issues but he did say the title would continue as graphic novels but none have appeared so far as far as I know.

What's admirable is Busiek's obvious determination not to compromise his vision in any way. Not easy when you are trying to make a living.
