Great idea - the Beano has introduced an adult pull-out section to this week's issue:

With our Government stuffed full of comic book characters, it can't fail to be a hit - I hope it catches on.

Today marks the 67th anniversary of that marvellous icon of early feminism - Minnie the Minx - from the genius of Leo Baxendale:

The comic strips are best but for a hint of the mayhem, you might check out the cartoons:

Great idea, but will they provide genuine laughs or just a one-sided political bashing to garner a little bit of the attention they (Beano) once had?

A bit early to be thinking of my birthday list but this looks like a winner:

Anyone know of a Golden Age Heroes or Jungle Girls board game out of interest?

Interesting to see this new licensing arrangement with powerhouse Egmont - could be good for British comics. I'm looking forward to the Battle for Bash Street:

I've discovered from a Uruguayan press agency of all places that the Thomson family who own the Beano are worth ?1.4bn

Who says you can't make money from comics - although I suspect this is probably the result of canny investments from the family since the 1930s.

The academically-challenged Bananaman is set to return on screen - the world's greatest banana smoothie - banana sales are expected to go through the roof!

https://www.msn.com/en-gb/entertainment/movies/bananaman-comic-superhero-to-make-small-screen-comeback-after-35-years/ar-BB1dZ7Zf

Note they are looking for WRITERS - so here's your chance to be part of something big (and bendy)

Why did Bananaman go out with a prune? Because he couldn't find a date.
Why are Bananamen never lonely - because they hang around in bunches
How long does it take to slip on a banana skin - a bananosecond
What do you call it when Bananaman eats a banana - Canabananalism
Stats show that humans eat more bananas than monkeys - I guess that's true, I've never eaten a monkey

If like me, you are still reeling from the announcement that Fatty in the Bash Street Kids must in future be referred to as Freddy, there is at least good news in the announcement that two new characters are to join the gang - Mandira Sharma (with her mobile welded to her ear) and naughty prankster Harsha Chandra.

You may have gathered that DC Thomson in their heavy-handed way are doing their best to adjust to the woke agenda - but the whole joke about Fatty of course was that despite his resemblance to a bowling ball, he was the gang's star athlete - regularly winning the 100yds dash on sports day, pole vaulting over barbed wire fences or doing triple salcos on the ice skating rink - a life-affirming role model for all fat kids (like I was - and, um, still am)

BTW, hands up all those who knew there really is a Bash Street in Dundee?

I already am a writer for Egmont (Danmark og Norge).  But, I'm not all that familiar with The Beano.  The style of the artwork was never to my liking.

Good news! There was talk of a Bananaman film that never actually happened, so let's hope we have more luck this time.

Ignore at your peril one of the greatest Beano strips, Jonah, by the amazing Ken Reid.  I'll read Jonah over Bananaman any time. I was never a big Dennis fan, preferring the chaos that was The Bash St. Kids.  But for sheer disaster and cluelessness and big boffo bwahahahas, Jonah has it over all of them.
