Interesting “Let’s Talk It Over” message on page 24 briefly describing the history of comic books in its last two decades. It also describes Adventures in the Unknown as an “all-supernatural comics magazine” and “forerunner of the entire weird-story trend in comics” rather than using “horror comic.” And I don’t it’s because of their distancing themselves from the complicated censorship matters of the time that comics would largely get out of anyway by the 70s either really. Because I’ve heard of this title being referred to as “a weak horror comic,” but I’m honestly not really sure if it was intending itself to be outright horror in the first place. The title itself implies mystery and discovery more so than horror I’d say, and for what it wanted to do with the writing, I’d say it accomplished it quite well, if its sales and longevity are anything to go by anyway. I’d suppose many people would still prefer if it was more like Tales from the Crypt than something more comparable like The Twilight Zone. Then again, not all horror comics are obligated to be the same. Hmm...
