I have always questioned the notion of Tally Ho being Frazetta's first comic work, narf.

If you think about it, in 1944 Frazetta was a 16 year old kid who MUST have done some other work with John Giunta to prove his worthiness before being allowed to draw and ink and sign a comic feature. Even if he was obviously talented and even if Bernard Baily obviously recognized that talent, it makes zero sense to me that the first thing he did was say, "Hey, Frank, make up a character and draw me an eight page story."

Much more likely, and even Frazetta says that he had been working around the Baily Shop before he pitched The Snowman idea, that Giunta gave him some stuff to ink and perhaps enlisted his pencilling aid on some of the stories that he was doing for Baily. I'm not in a position to research the sequence, but perhaps looking at Giunta's work at Continental in 1944 will spot some stuff that he did. I can recall seeing it, but I'm stuck in this cast and unable to access the data.

Since Frazetta is still around would he know? BTW Jim did you see the link to Henry Brewster if you want to see later Powell art. It actaully is not that bad I just really dislike the faces.

Yes, I saw the link, narf,
but I really don't do that much downloading, and certainly not off Rapidshare. I've seen a lot of later Bob Powell at Prize in the early '60s and, of course, his Marvel Daredevil stuff. Not my favorite, either. I guess he wasn't in the best of health at that time, either.

And I'm not certain that Frazetta would remember, but it would nice if someone would ask him. That's one of the problems that crop up when one questions the "accepted history". Too many times "Tally Ho" has received the "First Work" benediction, when I think it truly only deserves the "First Signed Work" label.
