Nicely-done, but I confess I prefer Sgt. Preston. He has a cool dog. Can some expert explain the usage of Preston's "Smokey Bear" hat--which I always thought was the standard Mountie hat--and Dick Daring's "Badger-sleeping-on-your-head" hat? That's some hat. It never comes off, not while he sleeps, not even when he's knocked down by a rock. It must have been made by the company that made fedoras for Republic serial heroes.

The History Guy on Youtube has an almost 18 minute video on The Campaign Hat & Forgotten History detailing the various in and outs of the "Smokey Bear hat". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vihhRvKGuK4

Very interesting. The father of a friend was a park ranger and always wore one of these Smokey Bear hats. I remember some Boy Scout troops prefered these as well.
Sgt Preston often wore the fur cap when operating out in the snow fields. In fact I always associate him with a fur hat and fur coat slung like a cloak over his uniform.

Seems like the 19th century and very early 20th century Mounties had not yet been introduced to the Campaign hat.

PS
I just remembered an actor by the name of Preston Foster. As he grew older and sported a mustache he looked almost exactly like the actor who played Sgt Preston . This is very obvious when you compare images from his role as a Mounty in a film with Gary Cooper.
Around 1:20 into this video.

Interesting. What was that science fiction film they used a clip of at the end? Looking at IMDB I'm wondering if it's The Time Travelers?

Dick Simmins was the actor who played Sgt. Preston, or at least he played him in the TV show. Not sure if there were other productions with different Prestons. IMDB doesn't allow searching by character.

Since 'the time travellers' seems to be the only Science Fiction on his CV, it probably is.
Allthough that still, reads,

'2071 - Mutan-beshan gegan Roboten.'
This one is quite interesting tho, for obvious reasons. I'll have to track it down.
