Zip Files

Can someone tell me how to fix the zip files?  I would like to read some of these comics and they seemed to be blocked due to the two extensions.  Where can I change this easily?  Thanks for your help.

Is the extension just .zip or is it something like .cbz.zip? If it's just a .zip file, you just need to change it to .cbz. If it's both, just delete the .zip extension.

I'm a neophyte with computers: how do I get my browser to show extensions so I can lop off the unnecessary one?  (I'm using Internet Explorer.)

I don't think you can have IE lop off the extra extension.  I think maybe you're trying to read the files on line using IE.  What you need to do is download the file.  Then once you've got the file on your computer it will be xxx.cbr, xxx.cbz, xxx.zip or xxx.rar.  Or maybe something like xxx.rar.cbr which is an error.

In any case there are two ways to proceed.

If you have a comic book reader program (which you can get for free just google it) double clicking on a .cbz or .cbr should open it up and you can read the pages. (If the file has a double extension rename the file so it's just xxx.cbr or xxx.cbz as appropriate and proceed).

If you don't have a program like that, then make sure the extension is .rar or .zip and double click on that.  That should open the file in your native decompressing program and you can extract the images which will have names like whiz_01.jpg.  These files can be viewed in any program that can look at image files.

If things are done properly, then xxx.cbz are just zip files renamed and xxx.cbr are just rar files renamed.

Okay, I've tried several different .zip files and none of them works.  I've tried downloading them as .zip AND .cbz: either way winzip won't open them and CDisplay won't read them.  Both say they aren't valid archives.  What am I doing wrong?

I hear you -- sometimes I have to use TUGZip or IZArc or Filzip to open a stubborn file, place the individual jpegs into a new folder, then read it from CDisplay.

I have to do that for a file at least once a month -- so I do understand your frustrations. Consider using one of the programs I referenced and see what your results are.

Let us know what happens.
