Intrigued by the author's name I poked around the internet for info on Huldine V Beamish (1904-1965). There isn't much about her but she sounds interesting. The "Calderdale Companion" calls her a "big-game huntress and writer." She wrote magazine articles and a couple of books including one about bullfighting one about Portugal. A paragraph praising Portugal's village of Marvao is quoted all over the web. Beamish is also frequently mentioned for her translation from the Swedish of a book about Captain Cook's travels. She and her partner Helen Frazer kept a farm in Portugal.
