What '40s ACG Comic Contained GUS THE GHOST?
« on: October 11, 2021, 04:43:02 AM »

In 1949, Al Capp's Shmoo character was used to advertise bags of Delmonico Hard Candy, and mini-comics containing Creston/ACG Publishing series stories were given away with each bag.  Texas Tim, Ranger, Pickles(Teen), Cindy(Cookie), Doc Bark(Giggle), Chloe Cat (HaHa), Giles(Giggle), The Girl Friend(Teen),Izzy & Dizzy(HaHa), Duke & The Dope(Giggle), Li'l Abner, The Shmoos, and a few other characters were used.  They were mainly from both Human character comedy and Funny Animal character comedy, but there were also Western (realistic) characters, as well.  But, unfortunately, Grand Comics Database has no entry for Gus The Ghost as a story title, story character, or series title.

Gus Ghost's front cover has the main character look a bit comedic, but I've not seen any of the inside pages, and haven't seen a Creston or ACG book with a story of his, so I have no clue which comic book series contained that character's story(ies).

Here is a scan of the front cover:

ALL of the 10 issues whose comic book front covers or story title pages I have seen have been reprints of stories that appeared in ACG regular series.  So, I am guessing that the Gus Ghost story was a guest character filler feature in one or a few issues of an ACG comedy series.

I am hoping some member of this forum, familiar with the filler stories in ACG book series, can identify where I can find the story Gus The Ghost.  Thanks for any help.
