Golden Age fiction

I found this site off the back of a reprint I got from a comic convention:

http://www.adventurehouse.com/

They seem to specialize in reprinting The Shadow and Doc Savage mainly.

John Gunnison is the hands on this particular press -- I have never met him, but we have mutual friends in Pulp fandom. For the record, The Shadow and Doc Savage (including The Spider) material being published is from the pulps, and the parties doing so have permission from the various owners.

If you are into pulps, Adventure House is a great place to start.

For more pulp action, let me recommend two Yahoo groups. The first is "Online Pulps" featuring single stories in a pdf format. The second is "Pulpscans" with full magazine downloads. Both sites are pretty careful to offer only PD material, and are really worth checking out if you like the genre. Cheers, Jeff

Heres a favorite of mine
http://www.blackmaskmagazine.com/

Black mask Magazine. Pulp crime drama and horror at its best.

There was another Black Mask site online years ago, I never found out why they closed down.

That story is quite legend actually!  :o  One of the key reasons that we will not be hosting Doc Savage or The Shadow comics.

Theres a new Black Mask Online site now.
They don't distribute free books on site but have links to Munsey's where free downloads of golden age Detective stories and Sci Fi can be found.

Will Murray used to attend some of the conventions here in VA.
I used to go to RoVaCon and various Richmond cons.

Woody Harris is an old buddy from the Virginia Chess Federation and fandom.
Woody was a big pulp collector.
Do / did you know him?
I don't know if he's still alive....

I have a few brittle near-coverless Weird Tales pulps, a Phantom Detective, one of the later Doc Savage pulps, and a few western pulps.
If anyone wants to scan them (to SHARE, NOT SALE), I'll gladly lend 'em.
The Weird Tales I'll probably GIVE to anyone who will scan 'em.

Bob

The old site became Munseys and now is back to
http://www.blackmask.com/

It was initially shut down by copyright owners.

Ever read any of Arch Whitehouse's WW1 fiction.
Whitehouse was a veteran flyer in the last days of the war and saw a fair amount of action. His stories are full of historically correct data about the aircraft weaponry and difficulties of flying open cockpit biplanes in combat.
The plots are more adventure fiction though, much like the fliers in the old comics.

PS
The film Flyboys has been raked over the coals due to the enemy fighter all being triplanes. In fact when the triplane first came out entire squadrons were equiped with them. Only after some crashed due to defects in construction of the upper wing were the majority pulled from service leaving only a very few in the hands of top aces who had already proven their own picked individual craft could withstand the stress of dogfighting.
