ANC?
« on: February 08, 2011, 02:51:27 AM »

Looking at a few of the Better/Standard/Nedor covers, and below either the "Standard Comics" logo, or the price tag, it sometimes has the letters "ANC". Any idea what this is?

And just to explain further, ANC was a distributor;; they got the comics from the publishers to the newsstands.  Another (perhaps the other big distributor at the time was Independent News which distributed DC.  In fact it was owned by at least some of the same owners.  (I don't believe it was owned directly by DC itself.)

And now you know ... the rest of the story. thanks

According to Wikipedia (!): "A 1955 strike by American News Corporation, the main distributor in the U.S., meant that magazines remained in warehouses and never made it to the newsstands; the unsold copies represented a significant financial blow and contributed to publishers' decisions to cancel magazines."
