RE: Dell Comics ...

Hi guys, Blackshade here again. I have a whole bunch of Dell Little Lulus (40s and 50s) and a one-shot Mary Jane and Sniffles I'd like to add to the collection. Would these be considered in the public domain? Ciao, B.

Neither is public domain. l have mentioned on the site that no Dell comics are to be uploaded yet. l will eventually put categories up for the titles we will allow and, these will grow as l get a chance to sift through the copyright records.

In fact Dell's books would be the most difficult to post here because of the fact that so many of their books featured characters that were licensed properties (ie. the Disney books, Tarzan, the Lone Ranger, etc.). If any books from Dell were to be posted, it would posibly be such titles as The Funnies, Popular Comics, or Crackajack Funnies helped in large part by the superhero features and early comic strips featured in those books.

We have some up that on a quick look seemed OK, although a few have since been found to be not public domain, and some more will likely vanish yet. Dell did not usually file their copyrights in the expected category, many were renewed and l have the numbers, but cannot find the records. The Dell section will be nothing but a headache for me l am sure, but we will get something.

Hopefully, you'll eventually get any of the superhero stories from those books up on the site. I would definately love to read those stories.
