General Question About Clipping and Using Comics As Illus. for My Website

Since I'm not all that familiar with Copyright law, I was just wondering if there are any restrictions to using clips from these  GAC comics as graphic illustrations for my Web site, even though they are public domain? I know it may appear to be a dumb question, but as I live in the US, I have found many laws here to be quite dumb and more than evasive.

Thanks for any thoughts you wish to share.

In looking into the copyright status of a British sporting rifle catalog I found that while the text was in the public domain the photos and drawings in the catalog were still the protected intellectual property of the heirs of the artist.

I have no idea whether this applies to any other form of illustrated publications.

The reason these comics are on the site is that they are believed to be in the public domain. That means nobody owns them or everybody owns them.

Keep in mind, we aren't lawyers, so, although we do our best to authenticate them as PD, the risk is yours. If you are concerned, consult an intellectual property lawyer for advice.
