Is Australian Catman part of the Public Domain?
« on: December 18, 2012, 05:13:19 PM »

Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone here can answer this question I have about the Australian version of Catman.

Is the Australian version of Catman part of the Public Domain?
http://www.internationalhero.co.uk/c/catman.htm

I only ask becuase I would like to read some of the comics from that series, but I can't find any of them on any of the web pages that have Public Domain stuff on them, so I was wonder if Australian Catman still has some copyrights on the comics?

I will scan my Cat-Man AU version this week and post it here. Is that ok?

I know that AC Comic's long-running Men of Mystery series, which consists primarily of PD American GA hero reprints, has also reprinted several of the Australian Cat Man stories over the years so I have assumed that these were PD too.

Holy macaroni, my head is starting to hurt with all the research and checking (and my notes are often not in the easiest form to access) BUT, I'd forgotten about the AC reprints (thanks Joe) and if Mr Black can publish them, we can host them.  Orphaned rather than pd, perhaps?
Also the art is very good.
Amending this to add that this site has Aus Catman - I'm really getting slower as I knew of the site and simply had forgotten (mulled wine and pannetone at the French class this morning - not conducive to constructive thinking):-

Nothing seems to have happened on this site for quite a while.  Anyone else know anything about it?

Doesn't this just push "responsibility" onto AC. Just because someone else assumes it's PD ...

Roy, I think it's more a case of AC being aware of the condition of the strip and using it accordingly.  Mr. Black, being a respected publisher of long standing, can be cited as a reason for CB+ also having the title in the same way that we use other folks research and opinions.  None of the above means I am or we are right, it just moves us further into the "not being wrong" camp. ::)  But I'm happy to go along with any decisions backed up with researched examples. ;D
See temptation?  Hard to resist, easy to give in to and I admit to being easily tempted, so over to the rest of you.

No "responsibility being pushed" it is just a good signal. And along with the others, when will we see them on the site? Tomorrow hopefully!
